{Trend Report} Layering

Add warmth and character to your space with one of this years biggest trends, Artisan Layers. Artisan-made goods like hand-thrown ceramics, oil paintings, carved wooden bowls, hand-knotted rugs, and shapes from antiquity can add layers of depth to your shelves, entries, and even bathrooms. It’s a look that adds softness and a collected refinement to crisp modern lines, and it’s been making its way into the spaces of all our favorite designs.  Read on for examples and ideas on how to get the look!

1. Layer Art by mixing frame styles and colors with a mirror, candlesticks and fresh stems like we did here in the fireplace styling of our Parkway Project.

2. Layer textile prints a la Nokomis Beach House by using the tones in a handwoven rug with the same tones in your upholstered throw pillows. We love the plaid, floral, and stripe pattern play!

3. Varying heights of European brass candlesticks, thrown pottery, bone inlaid boxes and framed art from the talented Olivia J Textiles create visual interest in the built in bookcases of our Work From Home Office Design. That pop of purple in the lilacs with the colorblock vase sure makes us happy to see warm weather here in Minnesota!

4. Reclaimed wood paddle boards, cookbooks stand, and canisters add rich texture to an otherwise simple subway tile backsplash. The architectural hood with sleek bar pulls create a big impact in the kitchen of our Painted Sky Project.

We hope that you love all of the ways we design spaces with thoughtful layered touches and creative impressions. We'd love to hear about your favorite home details, too!

Warmly,
